A-kon-Round 3

Journal Entry: Sun May 31, 2009, 6:58 PM

So, I’m back from A-kon-and had a wicked time, as always.

But what made this time different is because, you know, in the past 2 journal entries about my experience at there, I always had a lot to complain about. I had complained about lines, waiting, food, elevators, etc. But for the first time, I can say that this was a truly successful A-kon, because for once everything actually went according to plan and those those problems we usually faced weren't as bad as they usually are.

When we got there, it was a pleasant surprise to find out that we didn’t have to wait in either the reservation line or pre-reg line-we got both done in about 15 minutes. It was amazing; we actually had plenty of time to do stuff on the first day! The Elevator game wasn’t an issue either. We staid in the South Towers this time, as opposed to the North or Central Towers. We had almost no waiting time nor had to play the Elevator game, which is incredible in itself. And Katie & I were smart this year-we brought our own food this time around. Sure, it was a pain lugging it around, but it saved us from having to buy every meal like we did last year.

Also, we both went to the Masquerade Ball. It was something completely different from what I expected, but amazing all the same. What I was expecting was an actual Ball, you know, like the ones you see in historical movies and such. What it actually was a Masquerade Rave. Spurred on by Katie’s friend, Karen (not the Caryn I went to High School with), I asked a random guy to dance with me. For a while, he and I waltzed, or rather he led and I followed-on beat to a gothic-techno-ballroom song, and soon as it turned into just pure techno music, we just waltzed to that. Soon after, he thanked me for the dance, and then the three of us made our way into the middle of dance floor and danced along with the crowd. We all left well after midnight, and after taking pictures and parting with Karen, we both headed back to the room and then called it a night.

This morning, we both packed up and tried to go to the dealer’s room, but found out that it didn’t open till 11-which sucked, since we both had wanted to buy more manga. But, since we had to catch our train at 11:20, decided to hang out in our room till it was time to go. We caught trains all the way back to Fort Worth, then Katie’s mom dropped me off, and that was that.

I only had one complaint this time-and that was the late opening of the dealer’s room. But it couldn’t be helped, and I guess it’s just as well. However, since the both of us are skipping A-kon next year (as Katie is going to Japan when the Con takes place) 2 years gives me plenty of time to 1.) get used to and comfortable driving on the highways/freeways and 2.) get one of those rolling suitcases that you can drag with a handle.

All in all, it was an incredibly successful Con. I didn’t have to do any major sewing apart from making improvements on previous cosplay costumes (which I will upload pictures) and a bottom skirt to match my Masquerade dress. Thanks to us preparing and taking precautions, things were a little bit easier than years before. And I had a blast at the Ball/Rave.

Anyways, I'm about to start uploading the pictures of my cosplays to make up for missing the update for this month, and even more can be found on my artblog: [link] . I know, I'm shamelessly pimping my site, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

And now I'm off to start making updates of just that.

Fashion, a passion that borders on obsession
It is not something that exists in dresses only.
It is in the sky, in the street, everywhere.
You are quite welcome! I love your fashion ideas!
